What is the 24-hour Economy about ?
The 24-Hour Economy and Accelerated Export Development Programme is Ghana’s most ambitious transformation agenda. It is a national production-led reset of Ghana’s post- colonial, import-dependent, low-value raw material exporting economy into a modern, self- reliant, and globally competitive economy that works around the clock to deliver productivity, sustainable growth, jobs, and food security for all.
As a destination, the 24-hour economy reflects a state where Ghana’s productivity and capital utilisation are so high that it must operate in multiple shifts—across day and night — maximising the return on infrastructure, human resources, and innovation. A country where no resource goes to waste.
As a programme, 24H+ is a deep and deliberate restructuring of Ghana’s productive economy. It moves beyond piecemeal reforms to undertake a complete re-engineering of how the country produces, adds value, and competes globally.
Under the 24H+ programme, Ghana will re-engineer production systems from top to bottom—boosting volume and diversity and shifting from reliance on raw materials toward the export of value-added goods: wholesome foods, pharmaceuticals, garments, industrial inputs, and digital services.
